Proven Quality Through Independent Oversight

Flameshield® tanks have successfully passed a rigorous 2-hour, 2000°F fire test, as required by Southwest Research Institute Standard SwRI 97-04, validating the performance of non-insulated tanks under extreme conditions. All tanks are backed by STICO Mutual’s 30-year limited warranty.

Watco Tanks undergoes independent third-party inspections by UL and STI, including eight unannounced audits annually. Since the inception of the inspection program over 25 years ago, Watco has maintained a flawless record — one of only three STI-certified manufacturers to do so.

General
  1. Provide Flameshield® 2 hour 2000º fire‐tested double‐wall aboveground storage tanks.

Labeling
  1. Tanks shall bear the Steel Tank Institute Flameshield® identification label.
  2. Aboveground tanks shall bear the Southwest Research Institute 97‐04 label.

Manufacturer
  1. The manufacturer shall be a licensed member company of the Steel Tank Institute and subject to Steel Tank Institute’s Quality Assurance program.
Product Description
  1. Tanks shall be manufactured in accordance with Steel Tank Institute Flameshield® Standard for Aboveground Tanks.
  2. Aboveground tank primary and secondary containment (inner and outer walls) shall be manufactured in accordance and listed with Underwriters Laboratories UL 142, Standard for Steel Aboveground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids.
  3. Integral secondary containment shall be testable and provide access for interstitial leak detection monitoring.
  4. Listed supports shall be used for all horizontal, rectangular, and vertical tanks. Supports are designed for seismic loading, if necessary.
